Monster Blog Caribbean Chronicles Chapter 3: Grand Cayman

Before I go any further with my cruise experience I must note that the godmother of our cruise ship is none other than Rosie O'Donnell . Don't believe me? Look below and you shall find proof.

After leaving Cozumel we cruised to Grand Cayman where we had a lovely shore excursion planned. We disembarked a bit before our designated shore excursion time in order to look around Grand Cayman. I learned two important things. Cayman dollars are not the same as US dollars.Yipes. Second, I learned that the port was pretty much as tourist as you can get.

Eric and I spent our time looking for a pair of sunglasses. He lost his on the first day of the trip. He also wanted a hat and ended up purchasing a pirate hat. My brother opened, or started the process of opening, a Cayman Island bank account.

We had a bit more time before we were to meet up for our shore excursion and we all wanted food. We ended up at the nearest restaurant, Señor Frog's. If you know the restaurant and/or my family you will understand that it was not a good match. My father is a minister, my mother is a nurse. They are not the beer guzzling folk that frequent a place like Señor Frog's. Anyway we had some food there and at one point a man came and tried to bottle feed my entire family some boozy concoction. We declined.

Below you can see the giant inflatable frog mascot. Disturbingly there is a human being inside of the costume. Before we went into the restaurant the frog was standing on a street corner. Eric pointed it out to me as he knows how much I want to bite inflatable animals. Much to my dismay the frog turned and grabbed my unsuspecting arm. Nothing is more disturbing, be warned!

After lunch we took a bus to the beach. We went kayaking, pictures to come later, and Eric went snorkeling as you can see below. I absolutely loved kayaking. I would like to do more! I did develop some wicked blisters from paddling so ferociously. Eric and I were trying to beat my brothers back to shore. My parents beat all of us.

After the kayaking we went back to the ship. You can see a view of Grand Cayman in the photo below.
We took a little ferry back to our ship. The ferry had a cool name like Temptress or Baroness.

After showering and having some dinner we stopped by my Erin's stateroom to see her towel animal, a frog!
Later that night the cruise had a show at the Stardust theater. The show was something else. The grand finale ended with Jessica, our song and dance leader, singing We are Family as representatives from the entire ship staff (housekeepers, front desk folks, Captain, cooks, etc.) climbed on the stage. All were swaying!

Finally, the cooks walked down front, took of their chef caps and waved them overhead as the crew sang We are the World. AWESOME!

Man, flying fish, inflatable frog people, Mayan ruins, and kayaking sounds like you had a blast. Now you probably need a vacation from your vacation.
