I spotted it across the courtyard, the fountain in the pond had been spraying this tree and had frozen it. I ran inside and grabbed my camera.
When I got closer I could see that each twig had been encased in a sheet of ice, it looked like glass.
The spring leaves were frozen solid and the green looked so beautiful against the milky white.
I went a little crazy with the camera (who me?) and took approximately one billion photos.
I love stumbling upon little gifts like that. I often get a sense that it is my responsibility to see and appreciate these quiet moments before they have gone.
PS Eric and I are going to do Earth Hour tonight. We're turning off the lights for one hour. I hope we haven't packed all of our candles yet...

In any given day the average household uses 24,722 watts of electricity, which means that the average household uses 1030 Watts in an hour. The average american household emits 1.35 metric tons of CO2 per year. Generating electricity from coal creates 2.095pounds CO2 per kilowatt hour. The United States produces 4,957,764,121,370.4 pounds of C02per year which means that maria and eric will reduce america's co2 emissions today by 0.0000000015% assuming that 100% of their electricity comes from dirty coal. However, if they are able to hold their breath for that entire hour they will reduce their emissions by another 0.0000000001%
Wow brother, thanks for that information...I think.
I love the morning after from storms like the one you had yesterday. They even had Denver on CNN. Glad you made it home from work ok.
P.S. Loved the pictures! Ahh.. ice on trees is so beautiful.
blogger just ate my comment so I'm feeling very frustrated...

i love discovering treasures like that.
thanks for sharing your treasures.
and i'm wondering if there was a fort built for the hour of darkness. . . :)
Very Dr. Zhivago!
We live in an old neighborhood with old lights so our power goes off a lot. A bad storm hit before Earth Hour and knocked out our power, so I thought that the whole neighborhood might observe by default. Not the case, but we put our candles to use.
Magical Maria!
Pretty ice! We did Earth Hour too - it was fun!
Oh I just love those brilliant moments of nature!! And I did Earth 55 minutes. I was sewing during the first five....
That's amazing! What beautiful photos... that would have been quite the sight in person!
