Goodbye Rentals

We are thisclose to moving into our first home. After nearly 12 years of renting we are finally leaving the rental business! We've had quite an education through our strange rental history over the years including (but not limited to) the following incidents:
  • More nude neighbors than we care to count. Seriously it's kind of weird right? It has NEVER been easy on the eyes either.
  • Strange cooking odors-with the exception of the Nepalese family in Denver that had yummy smelling meals.
  • Strange odors in general. Mystery odors abound in apartment living. I generally clump them into the following categories: animal, vegetable, mineral, freak funk
  • Flooded toilets from upstairs neighbors. These things happen, but yuck.
  • Mysteriously disappearing laundry. Once it's gone you don't want it back
We've also had great things happen while renting:
  • Spending time with friends in the midst of a blizzard.
  • We've learned to use small spaces quite efficiently.
  • We were able to relocate easily as we went through school.
  • We could call the owners when things went wrong. I wonder if they will come and fix our new house if anything goes wrong, just for old time's sake.
  • Learning to live and enjoy with very different types of people from many different walks of life.

We've made a home wherever we've gone, but now we get to dig in and really see what it's like to own a home. No longer can we blame funky smells on neighbors cooking (we'll probably just blame them on Bumblebee). I can't wait!!!

So exciting! It's the repair/maintenance requirements that have kept us from buying all these years. But, I think you're on to something with hoping past landlords will come take care of us for old time's sake!! Can't wait to see pictures of the new place!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! You are going to have so much fun. Remember a closing is just like childbirth. Hurts like heck, but you don't remember the pain.

Hey, not sure if you guys would do this, considering the fact that you're vegans. (I dream of keeping bees. I even know what I'll plant to keep them happy, lol!)
