Evening Outside

Change is in the air. I can feel it. Summer is drawing to a close. The leaves are starting to turn to leather and they slap against each other as the wind blows through them. While it has still been hot there is something different about the heat, it is less threatening somehow.

I am looking forward to fall, but right now I am trying to just take little moments to enjoy these last days of summer.

We are spending as much time outside as we can. I am so thankful that big cottonwood who gives us shade all summer long. A woman who grew up in our house told me that she planted it and used to longingly urge that tree to grow---she wanted the shade. Now, we get to enjoy it and we do.

We try and sit out back in the evenings while the girls burn off the last energy from the day.

We plug in the lights and sit back for a few moments. We know that all too soon we will spend our time indoors. Sweaters will be pulled out and these summer nights will be waiting for us on the other side.
