Exploring Our Town

The weather has been so very snowy and cold lately. Add wind to that and it really limits our outdoor time. So we have been looking for activities that are free and indoors. When Elise asked if we could visit the "dinosaur museum" (geological center) we were very happy to oblige.

The center is free and open to the public and houses a fantastic geological collection. Most impressive, perhaps, is Dee the mammoth.

The girls had a great time excavating in the children's area.

Cordelia is extremely interested in learning all about EVERYTHING. Elise was happy to just explore a bit. A staff member named Russell was so fantastic with Cordelia. He talked to her like an adult and shared with her many of the exhibit's interactive features. Cordelia ate it up. She loves to learn and appreciates when people don't talk down to her. Elise  was not quite up to a discussion about the T-Rex's sense of smell, but she was happy with the more tactile exhibits.

We ended the visit with a small purchase of rocks for the girls. They were thrilled to grab a few treasures for their nature table.

It was a great way to spend some of our afternoon, learn a bit, and enjoy our community.
