Garden

Well it is officially fall and we are winding things down in the garden. I still have a couple dozen tomatoes going, a few peppers are still doing their thing,  some very tiny watermelons that will probably never fulfill their destiny, herbs are going strong. I am still gathering loads of kale, chard, and cabbage. There are some zucchini and butternut squash to still be gathered. 



While there is still a lot going on the weather has been shifting and the first snow could show up any day. In fact certain parts of the state are already experiencing snow and frost, so my days are limited.



I have been drying herbs, freezing chopped herbs with roasted garlic and olive oil into ice cube trays so that I can toss them into soups and sauces over the winter months. 

This period of time gets me down a bit, the end of he growing season takes a mental toll on me as I prepare to be indoors for the coming months. Of course I adjust and I will throw myself into making things cozy. I do have a different approach this year too! I have a covered plant stand where I can grow goodies over the winter. I am also getting a plant light which will help growth and probably the rest of us as we enter into the dark months. Plus, I will have all of these frozen, dried, preserved goodies to remind me of the summer to come!
