Late Sunday night Lucy started puking a lot. She threw up dozens of times and by morning there was blood. So we took her to the vet as soon as they opened. We assumed there was some sort of obstruction. They did an exploratory surgery and found no obstruction and no movement in her intestines. Nobody knows why her intestines seem to have simply stopped.
She has survived the night. They have given her meds which they hope will stimulate her intestines. We are waiting for her to eat so we can see what happens. So, the news is that she will either be just fine and this will be the weird thing that happened, or we will be saying goodbye.
This world is a challenging place and it feels selfish to beg for one small life, but each life is precious and she is so very precious to us. We miss her and want to bring her home.
