Not catching on that this woman had no interest in me (she was working at midnight for heaven's sake; I have worked the night shift and now know that it is almost impossible to feign interest when you pass a certain hour) I pointed to the date and said, "It's my birthday. I just turned 18 a few minutes ago." The woman realized that I was not going to leave without a little enthusiasm from her. "Happy birthday," she said in a monotone voice. Ouch, it finally sunk in. If I had a tail I would have tucked it between my legs as I hustled out of the convenience store.
Once outside joy washed over me anew. I was going to win a million dollars I just knew it. I got into the car with Eric and scratched (yeah it was a scratch ticket and I am sure the grand prize wasn't a million) and....I lost my dollar.
This wasn't the first time I had been unlucky. I recall a raffle in jr. high. The raffle was such that every name was eventually drawn and every person won something. I was the last name drawn. My prize was a small bicycle frame. Other prizes had been cool things like boom boxes and games.
Anyway, it would appear that my losing streak is officially over. Yesterday I went to my mailbox and found TWO packages, the spoils of my recent winning streak.
I recently won the Advent giveaway on the Lineanongrata blog. I opened up the first package and found this lovely card made by Julia (see her website here).
Next there was this beautiful handcrafted bag. I am sorry I didn't have time to iron it and it was a bit wrinkled after the trip over from France to Denver. Isn't it just beautiful?!
Inside of the beautiful bag was a tiny and elegant purse. Look at that fabric. It's just perfect. Thanks Julia!!!
As if that wasn't enough I had a second package from Meg over at Becoming Whole blog. She is the author of the books Becoming Whole and Breast Cancer Exposed. I won this wonderful cookbook called Greens Glorious Greens. While it isn't entirely vegan I can certainly veganize most everything in the book. I have been perusing it this evening and I am really excited about it. The focus of the book is on greens (genius I know), which is something I always long to make more interesting. I can't wait to try out some of the very creative recipes like Apple-Cinnamon Beet Greens. Thank you so very much Meg. I am a cookbook-aholic.
So, you can see that maybe I need to try my luck at the lotto once again considering that I am smack dab in the middle of a winning streak. Thank you Julia and Meg!!!

Good story! And I love the purse. Very cute. You just might need to go purchase a lotto ticket this week.
