Last night we took a family walk around sunset. The fire has left a trace of distant smoke in the air, making the sunsets spectacular. The temperature was absolutely perfect. We wandered along Eric and I talked. Cordelia would occasionally chime in or ask a question, but mostly she just looked around. Elise was in the front carrier on Eric. Her sweet little head bobbing lightly with each step. She craned her neck to look at it all, taking in this strange new (to her) world. Eventually we stopped in a park to play and explore. Cordelia and I sat on a rock, overlooking a large undeveloped area around a creek. There are lots of bushes, deer trails and undergrowth that crowd around the creek. Cordelia looked intently and then said, "You can see everything from here." My first inclination was to tell her that there is so much more to see. Then I looked around, her family was all in sight, and realized that in a way we could see everything from right there on that rock. She let me hug her for a moment and then we were off to play some more.
