My New Obsession

Last week I was over visiting with my mother. She was working on an adorable crocheted hat for a friend. She put a crochet needle and some yarn in my hands (talk about an enabler). One thing led to another and before I knew it I had fallen into a crocheted vortex. I have been crocheting hats like a woman possessed----think mashed potato Devil's Tower from Close Encounters of the 4th Kind, but not really.



I have been crocheting on the couch, in bed, in the car, at the table, while baking, while entertaining company...it's kinda weird.



What do I have to show for this weird effort? A lot of hats...my mother and I are hoping to sell them here in town, online, and perhaps at a craft fair. There are big hats, little hats, boy hats, girl hats, hats with ears, faces, bows, flowers, etc.

Kindness Bandit: Busted

This week I decided to use the Kindness Bandit for a friend. My friends Irish and Robin are new parents. I noticed that their son was wearing a pink ball cap that looked really girlie. Now, I really don't care if boys wear pink, but I had to ask since the hat was so very obviously made for a baby girl. Apparently they needed something to shield their sons eyes from the sun. They made a dash to the store and could only find one pink girlie cap.



So, Eric and I decided that we would give them more options. We went to the store and couldn't find any baby hats. We went a little crazy and finding a baby hat became a mission. I will admit that it took some doing, but we got the job done.

We found two hats for really cheap and sneakily left them on their front door.

We were totally busted, but it was a great opportunity to tell them about the Kindness Bandit.

I want to say that I am really excited. A lot of my readers are spreading this idea around. I can't tell you how much it means to me. Thanks.

The Forbidden Hat

This past weekend Eric and I went out to lunch and noticed two guys wearing hats. Now, I am not talking sports team hats or winter hats, but style hats. We wondered to ourselves where the trend of hat wearing has gone? Why is it that very few people truly enjoy hat wearing?

I have several hats that are quite lovely and I do not wear them as often as I would like. One is a lovely large brimmed hat that doesn't fit in our small car; I have to angle my head to fit through the door and then the brim sweeps the window. Admittedly that is not the most practical hat, but who cares.

I think that in the future, hats will reestablish their importance in our world of clothing. Hats have so many important roles to play. Below I have listed what I believe are the most important reasons that we should take up hat-wearing with enthusiasm.
10) Protection from bird/squirrel attack.
9) A lovely sun hat or bowler cap can really dress up a: hospital gown, pair of pajamas, nurses uniform, army uniform, etc.
8) A lovely sun hat or bowler cap can also dress down an outfit if you are feeling over-dressed in: your wedding gown, prom dress, prison issue clothing, etc.
7) A hat can hide a lumpy head.
6) A wide brimmed hat can cut through the air and knock over any bandits you encounter, rendering them defenseless.
5) If you are a small animal lover you can wear a ten gallon hat and you can sneak your little animal friend in anywhere.
4) You can use it as a way to show the world what kind of a person you are. If you like Texas you can wear a giant hat that reads "Don't Mess with Texas" or if you like soy cheese wear a big cheesehead hat with the word "Soy" scrawled across it. If you have a little dignity you can choose a hat for style, if that's your thing.
3)You can put snacks under your hat and sneak them into a movie theater, thus avoiding the high cost of movie theater snacks.
2) You can wear the beer cup hat with new purpose. It doesn't have to just hold beer, what about your morning coffee, a cup of tea, a vegan protein shake.
1) You can stuff your hat. If you have a tiny head you can put on a big hat, stuff it, and give the illusion of a large lovely brain.
