Godmother

Cordelia has been eagerly awaiting Erin's arrival. She has been counting the days. She has been asking if Erin was coming on a plane, if she was going to fly up high in the sky (though she pronounces it squy).

Erin arrived late Monday evening, after Cordelia had gone to bed. So, on Tuesday morning she finally got to see Erin. Cordelia was instantly drawn to her godmother. There was a big hug. Then Cordelia proceeded to ask engaging questions like, "You got eyes Erin?" and "You got a nose too?" She almost immediately told Erin that she loved her. Remember it has been nearly a year since she saw Erin so it was kind of like a first time meeting---she was a baby last year. Erin was great, asking Cordelia questions and really engaging her. They were fast friends.

We knew that Erin would be so good with Cordelia, that is why we asked her to be godmother. She has this amazing way with kids. I couldn't ask for more. I imagine that someday a teenage Cordelia will be calling Erin to vent about how unfair her parents are...I am counting on it. I know Erin will do and say the right things and help Cordelia navigate her way through life.

For now they are just building their own relationship. I love it!

Yesterday I taught Erin to crochet and Cordelia wanted to copy her godmother.

My New Obsession

Last week I was over visiting with my mother. She was working on an adorable crocheted hat for a friend. She put a crochet needle and some yarn in my hands (talk about an enabler). One thing led to another and before I knew it I had fallen into a crocheted vortex. I have been crocheting hats like a woman possessed----think mashed potato Devil's Tower from Close Encounters of the 4th Kind, but not really.

crochet

I have been crocheting on the couch, in bed, in the car, at the table, while baking, while entertaining company...it's kinda weird.

hats

What do I have to show for this weird effort? A lot of hats...my mother and I are hoping to sell them here in town, online, and perhaps at a craft fair. There are big hats, little hats, boy hats, girl hats, hats with ears, faces, bows, flowers, etc.

What is your obsession?

Projects

I haven't posted any project updates lately so I thought I would show and tell today.

Recently I was rummaging through a bag of projects and I came upon this half crocheted blanket. I believe it was begun in 1999 or 2000 and I completely forgot about it. The project languished in a Wal-mart bag, one of the old blue Wal-mart bags so you know it was old. Nearly destined to be discarded or left forever in a closet until it petrified. Only to be discovered a thousand years in the future by archaeologists and used as confirmation that our society was totally incompetent and lazy. Now I just couldn't handle being the one to give the 21st century a bad rep for future generations I have decided to finish it off.

The blanket was one of my very first crochet projects. I quickly learned that a small crochet needle =tedium when one hopes to crochet an afghan. Rather than discard the blanket I think I will complete the project, now that I am a more accomplished crocheter (is crocheter a term...doesn't seem like it, oh well). I now have several crochet awards (given to me by myself, just now in my imagination) and am world renowned for my ability to crochet a very basic to mid -level scarf---watch out!

Next I have been trying my hand at the challenging (perhaps a major overstatement) world of crocheting dishrags. My mother and I are preparing a bunch of stuff for sale at a local small business. I imagine that I will also sell some at our shop, so look for those as well.

Finally I made Cordelia another pinafore smock top from One Yard Wonders. I think the entire project took me 2 hours and that includes the time spent picking up all of the bobbins that Cordelia poured on the floor and a phone conversation with Ben.

I tried to get Cordelia to model her new duds and she preferred to put a skirt over her head and sob. She may end up a theater major, heaven help us!

I have also been making some awesome twirly scarves, a re-purposed dress, and awesome jokes. What projects have you been working on lately?

Finally Two Blankets

So, I have finally got some pictures for you! The quilt and a recent crocheted blanket, both for the children of friends.

Quilt2

Quilt1

The quilt is really a sampler of many different techniques and comes across as a crazy quilt. The back side is a bit more subdued with applique polka dots. As you many already know I had some serious sewing machine problems. My mother ended up completing the bias tape and she did a fantastic job, much better than I could have done. It was finished up just in time as my friend Mary had her little guy yesterday!!!

crochet

The other blanket is just a simple crochet in pink. I have a friend with a little lady who likes pink, so this is headed her way soon. Jennifer J. your package will soon be in the mail!
