Atomic Gardens

While we were in Cheyenne over the weekend that insane storm came through. The temperatures plummeted and on Saturday morning we awoke to a cold and beautiful landscape. The temperatures hovered just below 0F. The trees looked as though they had been frosted with icing, gorgeous. Eric was there for a work event so he was busy for much of the day giving and attending lectures. I was left with the task of entertaining the ladies.

We noticed that there was something going on at the capitol building. There were huge mountains of snow that had been shaped into slides, forts, snow people. Unfortunately it was just a bit too cold for such little girls. So I decided that we would laugh in the face of the extended winter and visit the greenhouse at the  botanic gardens, or atomic gardens as Cordelia calls them. I will pause while you squeal at the adorableness of that....

We drove over to the greenhouse and it was just gorgeous outside. There was a bubbling stream at which twenty or so robins had congregated. Their red breasts against the soft white snow was breathtaking. Unfortunately I couldn't get a photo so I will let you use your imagination.

We entered the building and had the place to ourselves. The heat and humidity were a wonderful change from the cold and dry winter air. There were plants and a small pond and green growing things aplenty.

Cordelia was quite nervous in the cactus section, requesting that I keep a tight hold on her sister. I am certain my parents are laughing as they read this; I was exactly the same about my brothers when I was young.

A great way to spend the coldest of days.

Simple and Perfect

Yesterday evening, after dinner, we headed out back. I did some yard work. Cordelia alternated between following me around and playing by herself. Bumblebee obsessed over the orange neighbor cat who kept taunting her from atop the fence. Eric alternated between hanging with his girls and watching tennis on the laptop inside the house. Then we went for a long family walk. We played in the park. Looked around the neighborhood. Checked out the creek and came back home as the sky was growing dark.

Hello, from me to you

We settled in for a family night. I enjoyed some vegan chocolate and a glass of wine along with the company of my amazing husband and beautiful daughter. Simple and perfect.
What is your idea of a simple and perfect evening?

Photos Found

Do you have an overabundance of photography saved onto your computer too? Eric and I have had a digital camera since 2005 and we have taken photos nearly every day since 2005. You can imagine that it really adds up quickly. Even more so since Cordelia was born. So, we've been busy trying to get a good organizational system in order. We have also been deleting photos that we don't like/need. For instance we had 5 photos of Bumblebee sitting next to a stuffed basset hound, not sure why...

While we've been searching through the photos we have been finding great photos that tell a story or give a glimpse into our lives from a few years ago. I thought I would share a few of them today.

New Mexico sunset
Eric grew up in New Mexico and I lived there for many years. When we return to visit we always make it a point to watch the beautiful New Mexico sunsets.

Eric at the Botanic Gardens
While in Denver we discovered the botanic gardens. We went there any time of year to just walk around and enjoy the beauty of the natural world. This photo was taken in the rain forest room.

What can I say about this photo that it doesn't tell you itself. Oh yeah, Eric was also wielding a switchblade comb.

This is a photo taken from the night we visited an MCA installation opening in Denver. The lights were the entire exhibit. We went to many exhibitions and openings while we were in the city. This particular opening was hard to reach and we spent a lot of time searching for a place to park. I also recall that I had very uncomfortable shoes on.
